Bad judgment

During our recent road trip, I heard a song that will forever make me think of fun and alcohol poisoning... I know, I know, I should not say those two things together, but thank gawd for whatever it is that gets us through our stupid decisions in life...

Imagine if you will... an endless heatwave... going grocery shopping with your roommate/bestest friend... deciding at 9AM that margaritas sound REALLY GOOD... so you buy LARGE QUANTITIES of STUFF at the store, deciding not to eat when you get home, but go straight to the margaritas...

Hours and hours later, after a person or two has left the party, and the margaritas became anything you and your roommate could mix with tequila, if mixing was really even necessary... and after the dancing around and on the table while wearing your roommate's red sheet; dancing to the song below, you decide you probably need a nap, but the man you've been seeing (and will eventually marry) has shown up, decides maybe you need dinner and prepares you food... and stays with you throughout the night, which is a good thing, because you wake up in the wee hours feeling sun burnt and insane... and he gets you water and helps you to the bathroom, and does all sorts of responsible things... while your crazy roommate somehow finds it within himself to actually go out on a first date!!!

That is what this song makes me think of... and when I hear it, I still smile... and thank my lucky stars...

What we discovered on our memory card...

...that we forgot was there...

I have a bad habit of not downloading every photo I've taken so looking at my memory card does indeed bring back memories... even if I don't fully remember taking the photos. Maybe I didn't take this. Maybe something more sinister did. I'm guessing there's a big ol' head o' lettuce behind the camera... reveling in the emergence of its creation!

Not a Real Speedra! Heh!

Mr. Thundra laughed in my general direction... saying my Daddy Long Legs-type speedra was not a real speedra! He was wrong. It was huge and angry and pulsing... it was waiting to pounce... I barely got away with my life! I did not, however, get away with my lunch...

I can't believe I'm now posting spider pictures. I'll be flagellating myself next...

Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and pukin'... *

Puke stories came up this past weekend... hungover puke stories from the past... Actually I think the conversation started with stupid things done while intoxicated, and was followed by humiliating stories of the puking that usually follows, whether still drunk, or moving on to the hungover portion of the program. We all had a few.

My brother-in-law shared one of a college friend who let it go in a Taco Bell. They had been out the night before, as most college students are known to do, but had to work the next day. One guy had it worse than the rest. While they were attempting to eat some lunch at the nearby Taco Hell, it was apparent this guy was not going to make it... the green, clammy pallor taking over his face. He bolted for the door, but only made it through the first set of double glass doors. It was one of those entryways that had the vestibule in front of the actual restaurant. As mentioned, he made it through the first set of doors, into the glass enclosure, but did not make it through the second before letting it fly. My brother-in-law said they got to watch the entire thing, along with people dropping their burritos mid-bite.

The poor guy finally escaped the vestibule, but was wracked with another spasm before making it past the drive-through. There he was, at the front of the line, heaving over a  split rail fence, right by the pick-up window. Apparently a lot people didn't hang around to order, which, considering it was Taco Bell, was probably a blessing.

This Sucks

I've been working on a painting lately... one for myself, so no pressure. It was a subject I had wanted to tackle for a while and could feel it down to my toes, I was certain this would paint itself. That feeling usually meant a sure thing, a smooth ride, a joyous event. The only problem is... IT SUCKS! I'm not even that bummed that it sucks because it's just too funny. I'm sucking in all areas that are my strong suit. I've spent 5 days trying to get it right, but it still sucks... looks like someone who doesn't have a clue has started it and will probably finish it.

I know so much of painting is often adjusting and readjusting. Like a pilot, so often you're off course, correcting your course, but this is insane. It's like I want to go West, and keep heading every which way but.

I'm not stopping though. You can't suck this much and not be around the corner from something good, especially when you really wanted to tackle it in the first place. Maybe I'm purging a month's worth of suckiness on one piece. I'm also wondering if something in my style is changing, on its own, not a purposeful direction, but rather an organic shifting... kind of like when you get up one day and your signature looks different, reflecting the fact that you're no longer the person you were for the past year or ten.

I've been expressing my conundrum to Grizzled who finally took a look the other day. I didn't even get the Explaining Voice. I merely got a subtle "ha" and then he left. Wow. It's kind of funny... Grizzled is left speechless... and probably a little afraid.

49 is fine... but 50 is nifty!!
