Laura... kindred spirit of my filthbot soul*... has a thing for aprons. Especially hostess aprons. I wish I had known a few months earlier. I could have bestowed upon her a bevy of vintage beauties which were unearthed in my m-i-l's home.... But alas, they're gone, baby, gone.
I can, however, share an image from before my childhood even started, of 3 of my mother's good friends, all decked out for a bridal shower, wearing their hostess aprons, as any self-respecting woman of the 50's would do.
These woman are, from left to right... Edna, Jeanette, and Sylvia. They don't make names or aprons like those anymore.
* Filthbottery is still on lockdown around here since worklife is possibly overlapping with bloglife... also, if anyone asks, my children came about due to immaculate conception.
People don't get decked out like they used to, either. Great photo.

A post!!!
Pour moi?????!!!!
I'm so excited! (but since filthbot is on lockdown, I won't tell you HOW excited).
I love the picture AND the aprons. I have one favoured on Etsy just like those shown in the picture.
For the record, Edna really does look like an Edna in those glasses!
Thanks so much for the trip into the past. I enjoyed it. :)
((Hugs))
Laura
P.S. God touched me too and I had babies. I think we need to start a support group or something. :)

Oui, pour vous!

Oh, I know! I love it. It's such a kernel of time...

Can I hide over here?
I feel comforted by the picture up there. I feel like my mother is going to walk around the corner....

A three-apron day? Must have been a big event.
Posted by: Another Kiwi | December 07, 2011 at 01:06 PM
I love that photo! And I love aprons too. But if I were to get one, it would just to be fashionable in an old fashioned way. Cuz it would be all for show! I would wear it after taking the take out out of the bag!
Also, love the names. :)
Posted by: blue girl | December 07, 2011 at 01:39 PM
Sylvia was on my short list of girl names in case Blue Kid turned out to be a girl! Love that name. (Name selection inspired by Lou Reed)

Was Vicious also on the short list?

I hope this baby thing don't go too far.

There was a Velvet Underground music book on the communal desk I use at work. Lou must be in the air!

BG- Sylvia makes me think of this song.
Posted by: Jennifer | December 07, 2011 at 04:44 PM
Is it safe to mention that I saw Lou Reed on the New York tour? he whispered cautiously...
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 07, 2011 at 04:53 PM
I think it would be safer and shorter to list who you didn't see... I believe we've discussed this before... If we don't hear from you, we'll know you've seen him/her/it.
Posted by: Jennifer | December 07, 2011 at 04:57 PM
I can't tell what's safe to say anymore....
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 07, 2011 at 05:34 PM
It's safe if you don't trash Pinko, anything I'm sensitive about... anything BG is sensitive about... anything thundra is sensitive about... fish is fair game. I love that about fish. His emotions tend to be bulletproof. I could use more of that.
Posted by: Jennifer | December 07, 2011 at 05:43 PM
bulletproof fish? Must be the scale mail.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 07, 2011 at 06:36 PM
We saw Lou the summer of '92. Don't remember what tour that was. We had tickets for the New York tour but Lou broke his ankle and canceled the show. Wimp.
Posted by: blue girl | December 07, 2011 at 07:03 PM
Lou's not as tough as fish!
Posted by: blue girl | December 07, 2011 at 07:03 PM
ZRM, I'm pretty sure you and I have talked about this already, but Magic and Loss is too sad to listen to.
Posted by: blue girl | December 07, 2011 at 07:06 PM
BG, I was going to see that show too, when he broke his ankle! The time I saw was like 3 months before. I had tix to see him at Alpine Valley, with Edie Brickell, the Cowboy Junkies, and Elvis Costello!
Then he broke his ankle, and they tapped the Femmes to fill in. They offered a refund for our tix, but after seeing him so recently (and Lou is great, but he's not exactly a dynamic performer) and the Femmes? I was even MOAR jazzed!
edie Brickell sucked, The Cowboy Junkies were good, but pretty quiet for a big barn, the Femmes did "Dirty Blvd" BETTER than Reed, and elvis....was Elvis.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 07, 2011 at 07:59 PM
and yes, Magic and Loss is a strong album, but I love it.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 07, 2011 at 08:04 PM
What's all the buzz?, he inquired.

I killed Lou Reed in a barfight in 1976.

LOL
Is it safe?
Now wouldn't that make a lovely header!! A winning header, if there were such a thing!

ZRM, I'm pretty sure you and I have talked about this already, but Magic and Loss is too sad to listen to.
From what I hear, his new collaboration with Metallica is too AWFUL to listen to.
Which only means, of course, that Substance will soon be using it as soundtracks for his disturbing animations.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 08, 2011 at 10:11 AM
I LOVE Lou Reed. At least, the Lou Reed from "back in the day".
Posted by: Laura | December 08, 2011 at 10:27 AM
lol @ I killed Lou Reed in a barfight in 1976.
Posted by: blue girl | December 08, 2011 at 10:35 AM
Magic and Loss is an awesome... album? Really something. But, it would just be too much to listen to now. It would bring out the Debbie Downers in all of us!
Posted by: blue girl | December 08, 2011 at 10:36 AM
My friend posted a bit of the Lou/Metallica collaboration on FB. I clicked. I clicked away. All I heard was Lou being Lou with his typical (but what seemed in that moment to be "stereotypical" it's all been so done before) lyrics and it just didn't pull me in.
The Skimmer's a huge Lou fan. (He was grief striken when fish killed him) And he listened to the Lou/Metallica stuff and was all, What the hell was that?!
Posted by: blue girl | December 08, 2011 at 10:39 AM
It would bring out the Debbie Downers in all of us!
Debbie is already sitting on my shoulder and needs no help!!!
I'm off to get my teeth cleaned. That ought to cheer me up! Woo-hoo!
Posted by: Jennifer | December 08, 2011 at 10:39 AM
You should have had some of the Holiday Spice Lager prior, Jennifer.
Heyyyyy.... bar/dental clinic! Brilliant! I am GOING TO BE RICH!!
..and drunk. But my teeth will be AWESOME.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 08, 2011 at 10:52 AM
Sounds like a plan!
Posted by: Jennifer | December 08, 2011 at 12:03 PM
I luvs Lou Reed too. NYC Man, The Blue Mask, Legendary Hearts and New York are my fave albums.
I read an article by a rock journalist about his own career talking about his worst interview. Apparently Lou came in the room, sat down and said "You know, sometimes you meet someone and you instantly dislike them before they say a word? Well I'm having that right now"
Posted by: Another Kiwi | December 08, 2011 at 01:05 PM
I hate when that happens, A.K.

What I've heard sounds just awesomely wrong-headed. But you know what's really embarrassing? The Jack-White-produced Wanda Jackson album. OMG is it ever terrible.

What's the correct ratio for piss and vinegar in the classic bloggy Caesar?
Posted by: Another Kiwi | December 09, 2011 at 02:38 AM
LOL
Posted by: fish | December 09, 2011 at 07:20 AM
And I think ZRM would agree, but Bloggy Caesars (full of plenty of piss and vinegar!) must now be the requisite drink for Blog Harbor Day.

Laura is a Prawn Junkie? I did not know that about her.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | December 09, 2011 at 09:08 AM
And she probably likes monkey-hot showers.
Posted by: Jennifer | December 09, 2011 at 09:11 AM
There is reason to believe that she is not averse to monkey-hot bubble baths. I can't say anything more because I'm not one for gossip.
Posted by: Another Kiwi | December 09, 2011 at 12:53 PM
You could put it in a pome, though, AK.
