For some reason it dawned on me how many blogging fathers I know... so I would be remiss if I didn't wish all of you a wonderful day, whether you celebrate it or not. Let me add that, although I don't know most of you personally, I get to interact with you enough to say your children are lucky. I hope they know it.
And just so you can never say I never got you anything... here's a lervely photo I took this morning of some irises that Grizzled planted last year. Although I griped that we really didn't have one more sliver of space for more irises, they were worth it.
Very pretty!
So some space is being taken by hibiscus?

I have two hibiscus that we just moved outside. Of course they were blooming inside, but now, are cranky. :(
I also have a lot of space being take by WEEDS this year! It's insane... as you can see above on the right, a mutant dandelion/thistle hybrid that is just ruthless...

When nature gives you mutant dandelion/thistle hybrids, make salad.

No way! These things have teeth... and a bad attitude. They are ruthless in their roots intertwine with delicate plants you want to keep.
It's a funky garden year on many levels... Some stuff is very normal and doing as it should, but other stuff, you just look at it and shake your head.

I do like the Iris, a very nice purple. The winter here is so far extremely mild. I am sure that the weather is not going doo lally because of Global Warming, it is entirely natural that we should flies still around in June and Al Gore is a fat divorcee.

So no orbs to take pictures of, A.K.?

We don't have no orbs here, Mister.

I prefer to celebrate Canadian Fathers' Day... what?
When nature gives you mutant dandelion/thistle hybrids, make salad.
Oddly enough, both dandelions and thistles are edible- wear gloves while you harvest and peel the thistle... suckers taste like artichokes.
Posted by: B^4 | June 19, 2011 at 11:24 PM
Oh yes, I know better than to not wear gloves... f***ers.
I love artichokes... about the only thistle I do love anymore. I refuse to eat the ones that are trying to take over my yard. You make one mistake... you buy goldfinch food for the cute little goldfinches, not really thinking about the fact that they like thistle seed. AHHHHH!!! And since we don't bomb our yard with chemicals, it's primed to be a thistle playground.

Irises are my favorites.

Cute little goldfinches are smarter than you think.
They probably planned the whole thing.

Oh I'm sure they did... they're in the pocket of Big Thistle... or maybe thistle is in the pocket of Big Goldfinch.

Thistle recipe for Jennifer!

That's it!! Or it sure looks like it upon further investigation... a Sow Thistle!! Many thanks to hdb!
We have milk thistles and those damn bull thistles, but this one that showed up last year started out looking like a dandelion, but grew up beyond dandelion heights... reminding me of those palm trees you make out of rolled newspapers...
So why on earth has puha shown up in my lawn??

Is this weedragon in Chicago or Wisconsin, Jennifer?
~

Chicago. I'll take some photos of some of the ones that are sprouting by the minute.
What makes them a major pain in the ass is that they pop up right next to plants I want, so you try and pull them out, but their long, trailing roots are so ensnared with the good plants, that it's almost impossible to pull them out without ripping out both.

There's a political parable buried in there.

Hmm, that link takes me to a Google page... which directs me to the Museum of Dust, which talks about too many spiders for my liking...
