I like like custard. I also like hot cereal (Cream of Wheat, etc). What makes these even better? Lumps. If I make hot cereal, I don't pour it in slowly, I pour it in fast. Faster equals more lumps. I also like tapioca. It's like lumpy custard. I also like bubble tea... lumpy tea. Grizzled would put all of the above into the category of "horse snot". Fool.
A few weeks ago I ran across a number of articles on the resurgence of chia seeds as a health food... yes, chia. They touted all of the wonderful nutritional aspects of the chia seed from high protein to high levels of omega-3, but that's not what got me. What got me was the description of what happens to the chia seed when you soak it in a liquid... it turns gelatinous... but stays kind of lumpy, the seeds retaining a smidge of crunch. It's awesome... grossly, wonderfully awesome.
It's almost like jello with bones...
Actually, it's more like tapioca with bones. Jello isn't lumpy enough. Jello would be better with more lumps.

Punk music is like music with bones. Crunchy bones.
Prog music, with the shifting, odd time signatures, variety of instrumentation, 200-piece-drum-kit solos, and nerdy musicians, is like lumpy music. especially when it's got Geddy Lee.

On tapioca, when spooning in i can get good smooth bite pretty often in some places particularly in the UK and some cities eg, new york, but i cant get a smooth pudding other places around the world. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to do something to make it less lumpy? please help.

LOL!
"Does your crunchy tapioca have bones it in??"
"If we took the bones out, it wouldn't be crunchy, would it?"
And, I did not post that Zazzle comment. That was also from the crunchy Zombie...

Don't mix the brains in with a beater. Use a ladle.

Good to know (online, anyway) a fellow Cream of Wheat lover; I had a lady friend who derisively referred to it as "gruel". I actually prefer it smooth, rather than lumpy, but I also like it with a crunchy topping such as granola. (Otherwise it can be a bit bland.) I also like smooth yogurt with granola topping; make of all that what you will.

The Mythbusters people are also fond of this combination.

no love for the quaker oats?
Posted by: almostinfamous | January 27, 2010 at 04:55 AM
LOL @ Thundra, Snag and hdb.
Andy- As a kid I liked to sprinkle those multi-colored nonpareils on my cream of wheat... they added a little sweetness, but also when dissolving, looked like a watercolor.
mdh!! Yes, I love lumpy mashed potatoes! And, I've been told before that I haven't mashed mine long enough. I reply that I like them with lumps, you know they're real!
Yes, I also love the quaker oats, aif. And, to gross everyone out even further, I also like it cold. If there's some left, I'll stick it in the fridge and eat it later. It's like oatmeal custard (sans bones).

Have you considered that you might be the lumpy bump with bones in your own gelatinous state of creation? What shall I make of this blogging trend? Someone shape shifting? Transitioning? A solid that has the properties of some liquids or a liquid with some of the properties of solids?

Only if I can be sprinkled with colorful nonpareils.

glad to know you like it like it, and don't just like it.

Oddly enough, last night the Frau Doktorin was saying the very same thing.

I draw the line there, Dan...
hdb- Frau Doktorin sounds like someone I could appreciate.

Lumpy>>runny. I eat oatmeal almost every morning and like it to have some substance, if not actual gravitas.

Oh fine, just rub it in... most of us are just getting up.
Did they play any good murder ballads?
Posted by: Jennifer | January 28, 2010 at 07:30 AM

OMG ITS HUAC EVILNESS

Do they play anything else?
Also songs about spider love, inspired by the dirty bits of "Origin of Species" and the creepie-crawlie fauna down in Albuquerque.
Posted by: herr doktor bimler | January 28, 2010 at 12:56 PM
That must be a new one.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 28, 2010 at 01:58 PM
Well the song was more "generalised arthropod love", but I'm concentrating on the arachnid aspect.
Apparently the spiders kept hypnotising Mrs Handsome with their eyes like shiny buttons, and when she was in their thrall she wanted to rob banks. Or something like that.
Each song was basically a horror movie compressed into 2 or 3 minutes.
For the coming Friday night we have tickets to Grant Hart.
