I first discovered Mary Jane's site, Touching the River, over a year ago. What first captivated me was Mary Jane's great graphics. She expresses her feelings, her states of mind, as drawings, this was something I often do so I could relate. The more I read though, the more I was amazed at her focus. For as long as I have been reading over there, Mary Jane has been working on her Electric Water World. You see, Mary Jane has been transfixed by electricity and water ever since she was a young girl and her brother poured cold water on a lit light bulb.
Over this past year I have been following the progress of Electric Water World, but it's initial incarnation is finally finished! As Mary Jane said, it's a work in progress:
Below you can see what I have been working on. 2 of the 3 houses were ready to begin photographing. The work will have a life of it's own for a while as it develops and transforms to maturity. One beautiful and unexpected thing that is happening now, is that the birds have taken to hanging out in the morning making a bird bath of the water buckets and then fluttering in the sand where mothers little angles are. I will have to get some pictures of it. It is rather charming. I am working on the house of transformation... and my own transformation as well. I am thinking about making a book with the pictures when they are all completed to combine my thoughts about the work with the images.... Or maybe just poetry and pictures....
Go take a minute and take a look. Scroll on down, she has lots of photos of her various houses. As I said, one of the main things that drew me to her project was her amazing focus. I loved that she just kept on going. Go over and see what's been percolating in Mary Jane's mind... if you've got 2 minutes, you might even drop her a "Woo-hoo!" in the comments.
I've been following it as well. It's a wonderful project.
