fish- is that one of your post tags/titles?? Things that make your head explode? I couldn't remember if it was. If it is, I'll just borrow, and will have it washed and ironed before returning.

Also, place your bets now on whether ZRM was actually at this Chicagofest... and for how many times he's seen Cheap Trick in any configuration.

I was tempted to go down to the Metro when they were playing their first three albums in their entirety several years ago...

Hmmmm. Dunno how many times. Maybe a half dozen?

Several of the political biggie blogs, like Great Orange Satan and digby, have been talking about how for years the DFHs have been warning that the Godbots were aiming at rolling back contraception, not just abortion, and that like almost everything else in the last forty years, Them Hippies Was Right.

Unbelievable.

We're moving up the zombocalypse.

I've said so many times lately that had you told me back in the 70's, that we'd be dealing with these issues (and others), I'd never believe it. I thought it'd be all forward motion! A new world where woman are finally seen as equals... kind of, and all kinds of acceptance and tolerance abounded!! This stuff just blows my mind.

I have had a few head explode posts, but I can hardly lay claim to it.

Funny, I was considering planting a Cheap Trick ear worm for the weekend over at my place too.

The worm got here first, fish. Perhaps it knew we needed some good vibes.

Forget Cheap Trick. I think this is a Nick Cave weekend.

You know, cuz he's so cheerful.

Mr. Happy!

Although I have tons of respect for Nick, I'm sticking with upbeat and delusional.

Not surprising that a worm would try to evade fish.
~

Thank goodness that men who are never supposed to have sex, will be talking with men who will never be pregnant.

Such an excellent way to put it! And I'll bet your bats would approve on top of it!

Can we please see another Viagra commercial now?

worm looking for a fish.

That's why you gotta hook 'em, zrm.
~

Beege, did you see the legislator that added an amendment to an abortion 'counseling' bill; the amendment required men looking for little blue pills to get a prostate exam and heart stress test. "just to be safe" you know.

LOL.

worm waiting for fish.

BG- It amazes me... and again, in 2012!!!

Lonk for Beege.

I heard that on the news the other night and thought it was a hoot. Of course it didn't pass, but she was just making a point.

My guess is that the Catholic Church hasn't been in the papers lately and this is their ploy to make headlines again.
They don't seem to care if the publicity is good or bad!

I mean... they must realize that in this day and age, they cannot REALLY control women like that anymore. We won't stand for it.

((Hugs))
laura

Unfortunately, Laura, as Jennifer pointed out so pithily, it is Men who are deciding on the actual policy.

P.S. ZRM~ love the kitties with guns. Thank you! :)

viddy for Laura also also.

Yeah, I saw that, ZRM, but thanks for the lonk anyways.

Like the dude from Daily Kos said, now they can go back to pretending that no one uses birth control!

Ooooo! Bambi getting crushed!
Why zrm, you just gave me a shiver down my spine! :)

More Republican Classick Hits.

It's no linger so easy to demonize blacks and gays, I guess. So on to women and immigrants!

Keep effing that chicken, guys.

Z, I could only read that headline, nothing more. I can't take anymore!

Chris Hayes made the point that this is all a GOP distraction because the economy is showing some momentum. And I'm sure that's true! I truly hate them.

Chris Hayes made the point that this is all a GOP distraction because the economy is showing some momentum. And I'm sure that's true! I truly hate them.

Yeah, a lot of people have been saying that. Pretty pathetic.

BG, and although Obama's 'accomodation' does seem to be a workaround with positive aspects in lieu of the Traditional Dem Cave (and I would have just gone ahead and kicked in the Bishops' teeth with a plan that eliminates their tax-exempt status), it most assuredly will only serve as a rear-guard action. Republicans and the Clergy are excellent at just going at their goals, regardless of being pushed back, achieving incremental progress until the rest of us are left sitting here going 'wtf happened? wasn't contraception legal?"

While liberals achieve incremental progress like the ACA or the elimination of DADT, call it a day and hit the bar.

In Sports-Idiot talk, which team WANTS it more?

Chris Hayes made the point that this is all a GOP distraction because the economy is showing some momentum.

Probably right. And like I said upthread, hatin on the gays and blacks isn't getting the traction it used to.

On the other stump, if we don't pay attention to the distraction, they will certainly take any concessions they can get.

It's hard to fight a front on eleventy-seven faux-outrage fronts at once. Amanda Marcotte once said it takes like five times as long to knock one of these stupid ideas down as it does to create one; you not only have to dispute the idea, but usually you have to go back to the basic precepts, which are based on fallacies that need to be disproven first.

and THAT, my friends, is just ONE of the reasons why I have such a cheerful disposition.

Obama:

no woman’s health should depend on who she is, or where she works, or how much money she makes [...] period

I have been waiting so long for you to call me dream kitten that I forgot what the rest of this post was about.

worm waiting for fish.

Yeah, I found him.

There should be a think tank where women authors write papers on the necessity of controlling male sexuality, for the good of family and cultural values and so on. Newt Gingrich would be the perfect example, with the added bonus of not actually being a strawman.

They still wouldn't get any airtime.

Never supposed to have sex.

Although I guess it may be that some percentage of that 8,000 instances may not have counted as sex.

Yeah, THESE are the people we should be listening to about morality. Tax them already, it will help pay for the prisons they should be rotting in. In fact, tax them anyway and put them in the OLD prisons, let out some of the non-violent drug offenders to make room; the drug offenders contribute more to society.

Sorry to harsh your Happy Friday buzz, Cranky Wolf.

I'm still enjoying my Friday for a number of reasons that don't relate to any of that insanity.

The hypocrisy of oh so many of those who declare they're the upholders of values makes me scream. No, what really makes me scream is that people believe it! The mere fact that Newt can act all pious and holier than thou, and people buy it? That's scarier.

And Santorum... basically saying he's not going to compromise, that he's running so he can make it all exactly as he believes, well, I don't know about you, but to me, that sounds un-American.

We've returned to winter down here... what about up there, ZRM?? Grizzled was heading west this morning so I'm glad he left early. I'm guessing the airport is backed up now.

Oh, ZRM, that's another link I couldn't get all the way through! I read the first two paragraphs and couldn't go any further. I'm gonna freak out and die, as the kids in 1978 used to say.

it takes like five times as long to knock one of these stupid ideas down as it does to create one; you not only have to dispute the idea, but usually you have to go back to the basic precepts, which are based on fallacies that need to be disproven first.

Totally. It drives me straight up a wall. They can say any half-cocked thing and everyone's gotta discuss and dissect it for weeks.

Thanks God we didn't have to talk about colonizing the moon for that long, tho. I noticed that was only like a 2-day discussion.

Sometimes I think it's because liberals *like* to dissect ideas, hash them over, gather evidence, and prove them wrong. Like ego gets in the way. And sometimes I think the GOP figured that out about liberals a long time ago and this nonsense is a strategy they came up with to keep liberals busy believing and proving how smart they are.

...while the GOP robs everybody blind.

My comments didn't come across to indicate that I knew where you were coming from, ZRM. I do. I completely know we can't ignore their nonsense either. Like Jennifer said above, there are just way too many people out there who will automatically believe it.

Progress in fractions of millimeters over centuries.

Moar crankiness, because the cobags don't seem willing to let this go:

Rick Santorum feels that no employer should be forced to participate in family planning through insurance policies. meaning, of course, that pregnancy and childbirth are not really related to women's health.

But more importantly, ol' Man-On-Dog 'don't Google me' has what, seven childrens? So that means, in the several decades he's been married, he's had sex no more than maybe 14 times (I'm givin him a bit of a mulligan in figuring that the Missus didn't kindle every time)?

Unless, of course, he and the missus have been partaking of....CONTRACEPTION!

Another effing ostentatiously religious hypocrite. Quelle surprise.

I love dramatic squirrel/chipmunk (I've seen it called both). Perhaps they used the rhythm method (which I believe is allowed), or perhaps he pulled out. Coitus Interrutpus... Ruptus?? Damn near killed us! I know that's not the joke, but it made me think of it.

Not to say they're not hypocrites...

Rick Santorum feels that no employer should be forced to participate in family planning through insurance policies. meaning, of course, that pregnancy and childbirth are not really related to women's health.

But those employers are probably still responsible for taking clients out to strip clubs.

Perhaps they used the rhythm method (which I believe is allowed),

As I understand it, the Catholic thinking is that the act of sex must ALWAYS be "open to the gift of life from God". To a rational mind, the rhythm method (in addition to being a Rush instrumental, heh) is merely trying to trick God into believing that one is NOT trying to have a bit of fun without necessarily getting a babbie. As Paul Ryan today complained about Obama's 'accommodation', it's just an 'accounting trick'. At the end of the day, the rhythm method is just another method of contraception (insert your own dramatic rodent here). Although you are right, the RCC technically allows 'Natural Family Planning" (which actually means Plan on Having a Family), I also believe that is a relatively modern development, a recognition of the actual fact that women are pretty universally in favor of contraception of some kind.

Beyond that, of course, is the notorious ineffectiveness of the rhythm method. Amanda Marcotte, I think, laid out a numeric analysis of RM planning, and it came out to like 8 days a month that were 'safe'. IF the missus is keeping EXEMPLARY track of her menstruation, which can sometimes not even be possible. And even then, the odds aren't particularly encouraging. Like I need to be using the explaining voice for you on this.

So, as thunder likes to say when he's telling me I am wrong, my point still stands; either Ricky and the Missus have done it only a handful of times, or they are big fat hypocritical liars and using contraception.

But those employers are probably still responsible for taking clients out to strip clubs.

If that employer is the Republican National Committee, they are responsible for taking clients out to kinky sex clubs.

Like I need to be using the explaining voice for you on this.

I was gonna say...

Maybe they stared at a picture of Christ and that was enough to prevent the seed from fertilizing.

I really don't give a rat's ass what the Santorums do, and wish they wouldn't try to legislate for me. I'm not even a Catholic. Remember (well, you probably don't, as I don't, because we weren't here yet) when they asked Kennedy who would call the shots... the Catholic Church, or the citizens of the United States? I guess Rick has already spoken. What a change the past 50 years have brought. I just thought we'd be going the other way.
