We got snow... functional snow... Amazing it took this long, considering it's mid-January in the Midwest.
I woke up early this morning, and even though it was dark out, the moon was bright enough that there was that cool glow in the bedroom that lets you know, EVERYTHING is covered with snow.
It's also so very quiet...
Until snowblowers started up about an hour later.
When I first got up and let the dogs out, I had two thoughts... 1) I'm thankful I don't have to pee in a snowbank. And 2) Why is it that the first thing a dog will do in snow (after peeing) is stick its head into a snowbank?? I often imagine them breaking through to the other side of something that only they know is there. We assume it's dirt, a mouse, or dead plants, but I'm guessing there's something else going on, and only the dogs are hip to it. I'm not that curious though to give it a try.

Dogs try to eat deer poop when you pass by it, he noted helpfully.

Walking in the cornfield again, thundra??
Dogs also seem to be fond of the occasional squirrel and/or rabbit poop appetizer.

I've decided that I don't like snow.
I do like the changing seasons and I really wish winter would change into Spring soon! :)
Glad you got the snow you've been waiting for though! :)Enjoy

Laura- I don't like it as much as I used to... as kid, I reveled in a full 4 months of heavy-duty snow... something that would probably drive me to insanity now, but I am still happy when we have it, at least for a while.
Like I said, I live in a Chicago burb, but this year, we had only had around 2 inches of snow from December-yesterday. Had we had a full month and half of snow already, I'd be cursing this latest covering!! But since this is really the first solid snow, I'm reveling!
Posted by: Jennifer | January 13, 2012 at 09:06 AM
I used to like the change of seasons too. But with the last couple of winters, that has changed.
I think Lucifer is looking for poop of some kind when she sticks her head in the snow like that. I think there's some kind of trigger in those stupid doggy brains that takes the smell (or taste, let's not bother being delicate here) of poop to initiate their own, new poopery. Seems that way with this orange leaky-ass creature anyway.
And since you lurves it so, I will keep a shovel up here for you to 'play' with the snow. Come on up!
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 09:49 AM
Ah yes... the Pavlovian Poop! That's probably it, but I like the thought of them popping their head through to the other side and I don't know, maybe seeing what AK and bimbler are up to. :)
I'll be there in about 2 hours, but by then, you will have had all the fun. I guess I'll just play down here! HA!
Tell thudner there are special snow butterflies only found in Milwaukee!! But you to shovel to find them!! Problem solved.

yeah, but his car won't start, because he is out of AAA batteries.
What kind of sideways alternate universe is this, where fish is being friendly and thunder is posting speedra horror-porn and being banned? I imagine thundra with an beard, like Spock.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 10:07 AM
I like "bimbler"
It's like halfway between "Bieber" and "Bumble" So I imagine him now as tweener with a mop-haircut and white fur....and he bounces!
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 10:09 AM
LOL!!!
That LOL was at the Spock comment.
Yes, what alternate universe indeed.
WAIT!! Maybe we're on the other side of the snowbank!

WAIT!! Maybe we're on the other side of the snowbank!
I suppose that is where the cornfield is.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 10:10 AM
LOL! I didn't even realize I'd typed Bimbler. :)
My fingahs are fighting me this morning.
Bieber crossed with Bumble. Dear. Lord. Sounds like a photoshop project.

I suppose that is where the cornfield is.
Yeah, but I haven't seen thunder walking around.

Bieber crossed with Bumble.
So this is where the furry convention is?
Posted by: fish | January 13, 2012 at 10:41 AM
I loved the snow when I was a kid too. I made all kinds of wonderful forts and such. I always had a Charlie's Angels office set up in there somewhere. The only thing that sucked was that I had to be crappy Sabrina all the time. My so called friends took all the pretty ones first.

more like tweenpop slashfic.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 11:31 AM
I always kind of liked Sabrina, Laura. But then, I was a teenage boy at the time, so not exactly super-discriminating, you know?
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Thank you Zombie.. tee hee. *blushes*
I think.... *eye brow raises*....

Oh, Jennifer, the weather here STINKS. It's 19 degrees and icy. The wind's blowing so hard that it's blown out some of the screens of our porch. It's not even a "pretty" winter day. It's an ugly day. The sort of day where the freezing chill cuts right through you. And we only have that little bit of snow not even completely covering the ground, which I think is the reason it's even extra ugly.
I might have grown to hate the term "lake effect" over the years but at least with lake effect snow, you got piles and piles of it which can be pretty and fun. This sort of day just STINKS!

You snow loving people are all CRAZY PANTS
Posted by: Von | January 13, 2012 at 01:11 PM
I'm with you BG, that's way worse than the seven feet of snow we have.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 01:13 PM
1) I'm thankful I don't have to pee in a snowbank.
Don't knock it til you've tried it! I'm a big fan of pissing in the snow.
We had more snow in October than we've had in December and early January.

Ahem!! Iffen you people could stop your flipping dogs from looking at us and drooling on the washing, it would be appreciated!

I love coming home to find a comment thread full of chatter.
B^4- I'll have to take a closer look at Pissing in the Snow. :)
Sorry AK! And you can't fool us... he's not Bumble Bee... he's this Bumble...

Did someone say pissing in the snow?
At least Jennifer didn't call me Bimber.
Posted by: herr doktor bimler | January 13, 2012 at 02:38 PM
Further research reveals that 'Bimble' is in Urban Dictionary. Sulking now.
Posted by: herr doktor bimler | January 13, 2012 at 02:40 PM
Hey, I think Jennfer is implying that she was NOT BLOGGING.
Herr doktor bimble. Heh. I find it apt.
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 02:44 PM
Nice fleurs, Bimler. They'd look good as a urinal cake.
And no!!! I would not call you Bimble? WTF??
I like this yellow snow... although the pee should be yellower. Hmm, I thought it was.
Posted by: Jennifer | January 13, 2012 at 02:53 PM
I'm not sure which is scarier... bimble or bimber.
And at first I thought it said, "shaved armadillo" and I was wondering how one did that.

I was not. Grizzled made me run errands with him.

Pshaw!
Posted by: zombie rotten mcdonald | January 13, 2012 at 03:09 PM

Do you think you can get away with foisting 8-pointed snowflakes on us, Jennifer?

Probably best...

LOL! Artistic license. And, 6 points for being the first person to bust me for that. :)

So Thundera, what did you learn from the time in the cornfield?
Posted by: Another Kiwi | January 13, 2012 at 09:09 PM
We sow the seed, right. Nature grows the seed, and then, we eat the seed. And then, after that, we sow the seed, nature grows the seed, and then, we eat the seed. And then, after that again, we sow the seed, nature grows the seed....

Well, for one thing my car battery died. Then it turned out my AAA membership had expired, so I spend a lot of time with them and some waiting for the battery jump.
Then I went to the store and got to the checkout right around 11 PM, which is when it closes. Turns out, I'd taken my wallet out when doing the AAA renewal thing, so I had no money or cards and had to drive back home empty-handed.

Hey, there is actual snow in some parts of Vancouver, possibly for days. The mountains look excellent.

Well, I get the whole long for snow thing. It makes everything look magical. Wish we'd gotten some here. I still can't figure out what season this is.

Miss Jane- I've heard from other MN inhabitants that this winter is MUCH less soul-crushing.
Good luck on your BA!! I'm counting on you blogging about it!
I still can't figure out what season this is.
VS- we've had plenty of that around here as well.
