My daughter makes me rap mixes, heavy on the Motown, which I usually put on when I'm seriously scrubbing the kitchen or bathroom. In the middle of one, someone (maybe her) runs this mind-blowing loop of Michael Jackson singing "Leave the Little Girl Alone" (that may not be the title but it's what he's singing on the CD).
I started paying attention to him with "Thriller." But when Michael Jackson was 12? He peaked. Even when I know it's coming, and I'm usually not paying attention to anything but stains that won't come out, his 12 year old voice makes me gape. The fact that he had to grow up, and now old, is tragic. How he handled it is even more tragic. But call up a pre-adolescent byte or two, block out the schlock, and see if it you don't rise up, chilled, and okay, why not? Thrill(ed)?
